Petroleum Engineering Laboratory

The Petroleum Engineering Laboratory is located in Block B, Room 301.

The Petroleum Fluid Properties Facility allows a versatile research environment, providing students with active and experiential learning through rich experiments related to fluid properties.

Some of the major equipment available in this facility are:

  • Marsh Funnel Viscometer:
    • Measures fluid viscosity

  • Atmospheric Consistometer:
    • Performs basic atmospheric-pressure thickening time tests and slurry conditioning

  • Falling Ball Viscometer:
    • Measures the viscosity Newtonian fluids by measuring the time required for a ball to fall under gravity through a sample-filled tube

  • Reid Vapor Pressure:
    •  Measures the volatility of gasoline

The Reservoir Rock Facility supports a flexible research environment, giving students the chance for hands-on and experiential learning through an array of experiments concerning reservoir rock properties.

Some of the major equipment available in this facility are:

  • Helium Porosimeter:
    • Measures the direct sample volume and pore volume at isothermal conditions
    • Measures sample density and porosity

  • Gas Permeameter:
    • Determines permeability to gas kilogram at steady state (constant pressure and flow through the sample)

  • Core Plug Saturator:
    • Obtains remarkable saturation of clean, dry core samples
