 Dr. Ahmad Smaili

  • BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University.
  • Served on the faculty of engineering at several universities including Mississippi State University, Tennessee Technological University, the American University of Beirut.
  • Held various administrative positions including president, provost, dean, deputy vice chancellor, and department chairperson.
  • Authored/co-authored over 90 technical articles and reports and co-authored the Applied Mechatronics textbook, Oxford University Press.
  • Served as a consultant on several projects including national consultant of the European Training Federation and UNESCO on TVET governance and training.
  • Supervised and co-supervised more than 30 Master theses and Ph.D. dissertations.
  • Contributed to the development of Fahad Bin Sultan University in Saudi Arabia, designed several curricula, developed numerous laboratories and courses.
  • Involved in developing strategic plans and in institutional and programs’ accreditation efforts in several institutions.
  • Organized the first Innovate 4 Lebanon competition and served as a mentor for the Stars of Science TV program innovators.

 Dr. Mageda Sharafeddin

  • Post-doctoral Fellow working on cloud solutions providing high performance computing nodes, American University of Beirut, 2015.
  • Thirteen Years of Industrial Experience with IBM as Senior Software Engineer in the Electronic Design Automation Organization, Micro Electronics Group.
  • Authored/co-authored over 16 articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences including IEEE transactions and ACM transactions.
  • Research interests include Distributed High-Performance Computing and Natural Language Processing.
  • Created innovative and inter-disciplinary undergraduate curricula in Data Science and graduate curricula in Management Information Systems and in Digital Media.
  • Designed an innovative course in programming for business.

 Dr. Zahi Abdel Sater

  • PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Minor in Cancer Biology, from Indiana University, 2017.
  • Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Global Health Institute at the American University of Beirut, 2019.
  • Served as head of research programs at the Global Health Institute at the American University of Beirut, overseeing four research programs: Conflict Medicine Program, Refugee Health Program, E-Sahha Program, and Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Program.
  • Managed more than 12 global health research projects with more than 8 million dollars in funding.
  • Served on scientific advisory committees of leading health initiatives, including Center for Research and Education in the Ecology of War (CREEW), Initiative for Cancer Registration in the MENAT (ICRIM), and the Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Program (EPaPP).
  • Authored/co-Authored more than 35 peer-reviewed articles in international journals on cancer, global health, conflict medicine, and capacity building for health.
  • Served as a consultant for multiple health related projects with leading multi-national health and pharmaceutical organizations.
